SPECTRE J Crew Kentons

Daniel Craig’s 007 wore the suede J Crew Kentons during the Morocco scenes in SPECTRE with the Matchless Craig Blouson, the Brunello Cucinelli chinos and belt, and both the Tom Ford polo and the Orlebar Brown linen shirt.

The original J Crew Kentons are now longer available in this color, although they sometimes show up for sale on Ebay and the fan forums. This model had actually been around for a while, but then Bond happened and they flew off the shelves.

Features Wanted for the J Crew Kentons
  • Darker beige or sand colored suede
  • Higher cut with speed lacing
  • Brick red sole
Best Option:

Bass Plano in Taupe: $99.99

J Crew Kentons boot James Bond SPECTRE budget alternative

The Bass Plano in Taupe is available in limited sizes a Amazon U.S. for $44.99 to $88.95, depending on your size. Good news: Lord and Taylor have the Plano on sale for $99.99 with a full run of sizes! This boot is almost out of stock everywhere else, and it’s one of the few I’ve found recently that still has the brick red sole combined with a close suede color (it’s not as bright in the real world). So if you want a pair, now’s the time to grab ’em.

Under $50

Alberto Fellini Wallace Ankle Boot in Tan$25.99 to $38.95

J Crew Kentons boot James Bond SPECTRE budget alternative

They’re fake suede, so you’re going to sweat like crazy in Morocco if you wear these things. They’re also only $30.00 and have 4 stars on Amazon after 108 reviews. Let’s call them our “costume party” boots, shall we? Just make sure you read the note on the sizing. They recommend order one size down from your normal size.

David Spencer Montgomery Boot: $29.79 to $169.95

J Crew Kentons boot James Bond SPECTRE budget alternative

The color is definitely darker than the Kentons. And they currently only have a 2 start rating. But they do have the brick red sole, they are real suede, and the average price is about $30.00.

Nunn Bush Woodbury in Sand: $35.99 to $82.99

J Crew Kentons boot James Bond SPECTRE budget alternative

Or you could spend six bucks more and get a pair with a 4.5 star rating. Amazon U.S. has the Nunn Bush Woodbury with a full run of sizes still in stock. And those with average size feet aren’t getting screwed this time; a size 9 costs $35.99.

Under $100

CafeNOIR Ankle Boots: on sale for £46.00

J Crew Kentons boot James Bond SPECTRE budget alternative

Yoox is selling these ones. Regular price is £78.00 and they still have a decent selection of sizes left in stock. I have no experience with CafeNOIR, so I don’t really know what more I can add.

Sebago Thayer Chukka Boot in Milkshake: $63.25 to $149.95

J Crew Kentons boot James Bond SPECTRE budget alternative

Also at Amazon U.S., the Sebago Thayer Chukka Boot in Milkshake is on sale for $27.99 to $115.00. This one’s for the bigger guys. Available sizes are down to 11 and 11.5 and you need to buy from a 3rd party seller.

Under $150

Rockport Charson in New Vicuna Suede: $139.95

J Crew Kentons boot James Bond SPECTRE budget alternative

Well, they’re Rockport so you know they’ll be comfy. They’re available from Online Shoes, and pack some nice technical features like a wicking lining and ADIPRENE® shock absorbing technology from Adidas.

Clarks Desert Mali Boot in Taupe Distressed: $150.00

J Crew Kentons boot James Bond SPECTRE budget alternative

This one is lighter in color than the screen used Kentons, closer in color to the follow-up Boulder color. On other hand, they are a higher cut boot, there’s still a full range of sizes available and Clarks is usually known for it’s price to value ratio.

Here’s hoping we see more alternatives in the coming months! If you have some suggestions, leave them in the comments below. And we also post affordable alternatives and deals from around the net (as well as other fun and informative stuff) on our Facebook page, Instagram account and Pinterest boards!

Brunello Cucinelli SPECTRE Linen Blazer

James Bond’s look while he’s waiting for his ride in the Moroccan desert in SPECTRE has quickly become a fan favorite. The combination of the Brunello Cucinelli linen blazer with the white Tom Ford shirt and rust knit tie, the Cucinelli gabardine trousers and belt and J.Crew Kenton suede boots is probably more practical for the heat than the Matchless suede jacket he wore earlier in the film.

budget james bond brunello cucinelli spectre linen blazer

UpdateAJB007 forum member (and very lucky man) Meesta Bawnd had a screen accurate jacket made by Brunello Cucinelli. He has very graciously shared some of his pictures to give us all a closer look at the SA color and details. You can see more pics in this AJB007 thread. Thank you, sir!

Features Wanted for the SPECTRE linen blazer
  • Linen or linen blend, with some texture, but no pattern
  • More of a softer, unstructured construction with average width notch lapels
  • 3 buttons
  • Slightly cropped tail
  • Standard suit jacket pockets with flap; not patch pockets.
  • Light brown/British khaki/dark camel/taupe (what the heck do you call this color?)

Trying to be strict here about the budget and keep the alternatives under $150.00 on sale, but stay close in color and material. But some features will have to be sacrificed.

Best Option:

Gagliaridi Taupe Linen Blazer: on sale for €144.00

budget james bond brunello cucinelli spectre linen blazer

Over at AJB007, forum member Llafyks has suggested the Taupe Linen Blazer from Gagliaridi. Thanks for the suggestion! Sizes are getting low, but according to Meesta Bawnd it’s very close to the Brunello Cucinelli original in terms of color and details.

Options Under $100

H&M Linen-blend Blazer: $99.00/£59.99

H&M Linen Blazer

Big shout out to Nick who shared this one in the comments. It kind of came out of nowhere, but sizes are selling out really fast. Looks like it’s fully lined, which won’t help much with breathability. But it gets really close to the look of the Cucinelli for under $100. Update: It looks like the UK H&M site still has lots of these in stock. You can see them here.

Stafford Slim Fit Travel Sharkskin Suit Jacket in Brown: on sale for $84.00

budget james bond brunello cucinelli spectre linen blazer

Two alternatives from JC Penney. First is their house brand Stafford Travel Sharkskin Suit Jacket in Slim Fit, on sale for $84.00 with a full run of sizes left. Its a wool/poly blend, but the sharkskin weave adds a similar texture to the fabric.

IZOD Light Brown Sharkskin Suit Jacket in Classic Fit: on sale for $100.00

budget james bond brunello cucinelli spectre linen blazer

And next is the IZOD Light Brown Sharkskin Suit Jacket in Classic Fit, on sale for $100.00. Sizes start at 40, its a poly/rayon blend, and the sharkskin weave doesn’t add as much texture as you’ll see on the Stafford. But if you’re a bigger guy, it might do the trick.

Cremieux Henry Linen Blazer in Chino Heather: on sale for $87.50

budget james bond brunello cucinelli spectre linen blazer

If you can find a way to remove the elbow patches, the Cremieux Henry Linen Blazer in Chino Heather, on sale at Dillard’s, could be a good option. Sizes are disappearing quickly in this one as well.

Cremieux David Solid Linen Blazer: on sale for $87.50

budget james bond brunello cucinelli spectre linen blazer

Cremieux also makes the David Solid Linen Blazer, now on sale at Dillard’s. It is a two button sport coat; I’ve no idea why they pinned it to look like a 3-roll-2 for the pictures. Only size small left in stock.

Options Under $200

Vedoneire Linen Blend Blazer: €124.99/£94.16/$135.70

budget james bond brunello cucinelli spectre linen blazer

Vedoneire from Ireland has their Linen Blend Blazer. I actually have another jacket from them (waxed cotton), and the quality is excellent for the price. The customer service experience with them was great as well.

Flynt Two Button Soft Sport Coat: on sale for $159.97

budget james bond brunello cucinelli spectre linen blazer

Interesting new alternative from Nordstrom Rack. They have the Flynt Two Button Soft Sport Coat on sale for $159.97, down from $350.00. It’s a linen/cotton blend, and they have lots of sizes left in stock.

Alfani Red Khaki Twill Linen Sport Coat: $175.00

budget james bond brunello cucinelli spectre linen blazer

And jumping back to Amazon, sizes are getting low for the Alfani Red Khaki Twill Linen Sport Coat, on sale for $175.00.

Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo

You got to hand it to Tom Ford. He took what are basically the features of a men’s big and tall polyester golf shirt and made them cool.

Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo affordable alternative    Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo affordable alternative

Not many affordable polo shirts out there with both features: it’s either the johnny collar OR the banded bottom, and almost nothing in that brighter navy blue and shinier fabric. But I’ve got a gut feeling we will see a lot more alternatives in the spring. For now …

Best Option Update:

Hello Magnoli Clothiers! The maker of fine replicas has just launched the SPECTRE Polo Shirt, retailing for a very reasonable $50.00/£34.98. Many of us knew this one was on the way and if the reviews are good, it’s probably the one to get for the closest screen accurate look possible.

Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo affordable alternative

Best Options for the Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo:

Perry Ellis Rib Open Collar Knit Polo, on sale for around $15.00 These are pretty much sold out now on the Perry Ellis site, but Lord and Taylor still has them in stock for $34.50. Perry Ellis has another option for $19.80; same styling and cut, but the fabric isn’t as nice. Cotton/Poly blend gives it the dressier sheen of the Tom Ford’s fabric. I own a few PE polos and I have to say, the fit and quality is excellent for the price. I’ve had a PE johnny collar polo in pima cotton  (no longer available) for 7 years now and that thing is still going strong.

Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo affordable alternative

Also comes in a light blue, if you want to have the other TF color.

Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo affordable alternative

If you have to have the banded waist and can give up the johnny collar, you can try the Lands’ End Men’s Supima Banded Bottom Polo Shirt, priced between $14.99 and $44.50 depending on the color. With this one, I might actually be tempted to go with the Brilliant Blue color.

Other Options

A new suggestion from AJB007 forum member Chriscoop: the Kingsley Open Collar Polo Shirt in Navy is available for $95.00/£50.00 at Reiss. Thanks for the share!

Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo affordable alternative Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo affordable alternative

A couple of new ones with the banded hem from Zara. Honestly, for a “fast fashion” company I am a little surprised it took them this long to jump on this style. First is the Short Sleeve Polo Shirt for £22.99/$35.90. A few notes on this one: it’s more of a traditional looking polo upstairs and the band at the hem is pretty thin; I’ve also handled this one in person, and the quality of the fabric really doesn’t feel all that great.

Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo affordable alternative

Next is their Polo Shirt with Zip for £22.99/$35.90. With the collar unzipped, this one may have more of the Johnny Collar look and the band at the hem is thicker.

Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo affordable alternative

A real budget alternative from River Island; their Dark Blue Waffle Revere Collar Polo Shirt is on sale for £10.00. Sizing is a little limited, but if you like the tighter look of the Tom Ford but think the V-neck dives too deep, this one could meet your needs.

Tom Ford Banded Hem Johnny Collar Polo affordable alternative

The investment pieces:

Orlebar Brown make two johnny collar polos: the Felix (shown below) for $115.00 and the Massey for $130.00, before imports/taxes/etc. Difference is in the fabric used (Massey has more of a marled weave). Neiman Marcus also carries OB polos in the U.S. for around $120.00.

SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

$

While many of us may not be sure about choosing suede for the heat of Morocco, I think we can all admit: Bond looks pretty damn cool (see what I did there? I made a funny!) in his SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson. 007 wears the jacket with the Brunello Cucinelli chinos and belt, the J.Crew Kenton suede boots, and both the Tom Ford polo and the Orlebar Brown linen shirt. For details on the original, check out this video from The Bond Experience and this article from James Bond Lifestyle. Not much more I can add. The jacket can be purchased directly from Matchless for $1390.00, or through their authorized dealers.

affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson   affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

Sadly, I don’t have $1390.00 to spend on a suede jacket. And unless you want to go with faux-suede, microsuede, or some other pleather jacket, options under $400.00 are thin on the ground. I’ve listed a few (and will keep adding others as they show up), but I’ve also detailed another option that may work for some. Scroll down to check that out.

Features Wanted for the SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson
  • Beige suede
  • 2 way exposed front zipper
  • Slash front pockets
  • Mao style collar
  • No knitting/ribbing on the cuffs or hem
  • Clean overall design
Best Option

Jaeger Suede Jacket in Stone: £375.00

affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

What can I tell you? It’s not the cheapest option, but a quick trip to the tailor will take care of modifying the Harrington collar. Then you have a damn close match for the SPECTRE for about $900 less than the price of the original. Jaeger also makes this jacket in a navy suede, which would work well as a John Varvatos alternative.

Other Options

ASOS Suede Harrington Jacket: £63.06/$85.00

affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

ASOS has the Suede Harrington in tan on sale for £63.06/$85.00. Nope, the collar isn’t a match. More about what you can do about that later in this post.

REISS Cristo Suede Stand-Collar Jacket in Grey: on sale for £150.00/$170.00

affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

A great new suggestion from AJB007 forum member Portent! With a regular price of £375.00, it’s a great deal, but unfortunately only sizes medium and large are in stock. Portent also recommends checking out the Navy version as an alternative for the John Varvatos Racer jacket. Thanks for the share!

J.Crew Factory Dalton Suede Cafe Racer Jacket in Camel: on sale for $279.00

affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

Like the Jaeger option, the Harrington style collar is an easy and inexpensive fix. Obviously, the suede is too dark to be screen accurate, but it’s nice to have another option for under $300.00.

Topman LTD Stone Suede Bomber Jacket: £150.00/$280.00

affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

A new option for Spring ’16 has shown up at Topman: the LTD Stone Suede Bomber Jacket goes for £150.00/$280.00. It’s closer to the Matchless Craig Blouson in terms of the collar and pockets, but unfortunately, the cuffs and hem are elasticized. However! As we show later in this article, you can mod a suede jacket, and I’m betting getting a tailor to remove the elastic from the cuffs and hem would be cheaper than the customization I had done to the collar and sleeves of my Banana Republic alternative.

Leather Right Suede Biker Jacket: $330.00

affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

Leather Right has their Suede Biker Jacket for $330.00. Again, more detailing than the Matchless, but still a clean look.

 Replicas:

Lots of manufacturers to choose from. Magnoli Clothiers is a respected source, and they’ve just released their made-to-measure Morocco Suede Jacket option for $695.00. Expensive? Yes, but still about half the price of the original and it’s about as screen accurate as you’re going to get.

affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

Wested Leather have also released their “Morocco Jacket“, priced at £185.00/$244.24.  This one is off-the-rack in standard suit jacket sizing.

You can also read about AJB007 member Vesper007‘s experience buying a replica from another manufacturer on this thread. As always, proceed with caution when choosing your manufacturer.

The Experiment

Why should we look at suede jackets with shirt style or point collars? I tried a little experiment and was pretty pleased with the results.

Step 1: I bought a used Banana Republic suede jacket on Ebay for about $45.00 including shipping:

affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

Step 2: I took my jacket to my tailor to modify the collar and sleeves. I brought pictures of the Matchless jacket and the measurements I thought would work best (basically 2.25″ at the back of the collar and 2″ at the ends).

affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

Step 3: For about $40.00 and a 1 week wait, alterations were completed and I picked up my jacket.

Results:

Not an exact match, and definitely not the Matchless quality or fit, but for under $90.00 all in, I’m satisfied. Shown with the Perry Ellis Rib Open Collar Knit Polo.

affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson  affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson  affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson  affordable alternative SPECTRE Matchless Craig Blouson

Lessons learned:
  • I bought a used jacket from a known, but unlikely to be copied, brand. Lots of fakes out there, as most of you already know. But you could have a new ASOS or Topman altered the same way.
  • The more “vintage” jackets definitely have a larger, boxier cut, so think about sizing down for a fitted look. And I definitely recommend you ask the seller for the exact measurements instead of going by the sizing. I went with a medium in the Banana Republic, but I probably could have gotten away with a small.
  • Focus on the jacket details. I waited until I found one that had design details similar to the Matchless (plain front, minimal stitching, closed cuff with no buttons). That way you keep the modifications needed to a minimum.
  • Altering the collar is a pretty simple job; I used a tailor, but I’m sure a shoe repair service or cobbler could also do the work if you give them the details.

Here are some jackets currently on Ebay and Etsy that could be contenders:

Banana Republic size medium, $149.95

Nautica size 46, $69.95

Wilson size large, $58.49

Wilson M. Julian size large, $109.99

Wilson M. Julian size large, $19.99

Brunello Cucinelli SPECTRE Belt

Once again, outside of promotional shots, finding an image of the actual Brunello Cucinelli SPECTRE Belt that James Bond wore in Morocco is really difficult (at least for me). And once again, The Suits of James Bond and James Bond Lifestyle do a great job of summing up the details.

affordable alternatives Brunello Cucinelli SPECTRE Belt

UPDATE: AJB007 forum member and incredibly patient Bond fan ExpatJB seems to have found the correct Brunello Cucinelli SPECTRE Belt at Saks Off 5th, where it was on sale for $249.99. All sold out now, unfortunately, but at least we can get a “real world” look at it. Excellent work, sir!

Features wanted for the Brunello Cucinelli SPECTRE Belt
  • Center bar rectangular frame silver buckle
  • Brown woven/braided leather with a solid leather strap end.
Best Options:

The full frame buckle of the original is the difficult part to replicate. The Entourage ‘Good Vibe’ Reversible Braided Leather Belt, currently $20.99 at Overstock.com, is a bit of a cheat, using the the double metal keeper to help give the illusion of a rectangular buckle.

affordable alternatives Brunello Cucinelli SPECTRE Belt

Windsor Saddlers and Belt Company actually made a version of the Cucinelli belt at the request of an AJB007 forum member and is now taking orders, with pricing around £130.00. You can get more information about the belt and how to order it in this thread on AJB007.

Other Options:

Honestly, with the main option above being at that price point, and in full size runs, it’s hard to recommend other budget options. From this point on, it is more traditional frame style buckles with leather keepers, but I decided to stay with square shaped silver buckles. Listed from least expensive to most.

Briefly seen during the daytime train sequence in SPECTRE, the Orlebar Brown Blue Linen Shirt Bond wears under the Matchless Blouson has definitely caused some confusion.

budget Orlebar Brown Blue Linen Shirt  budget Orlebar Brown Blue Linen Shirt

The shirt is almost certainly from Orlebar Brown, but the exact model is still up for debate, with options from their current lineup including the Malone (still available at Nordstrom in medium and X-Large for $195.00), the Morton Classic (£165.00) in Butterfly Blue, the Morton Tailored in Butterfly Blue (£175.00), and the original Morton in Sky (still available at Neiman Marcus for $275.00).

David Zaritsky of The Bond Experience does a great job of breaking down the Orlebar Brown options in this video.

Features Wanted for the Orlebar Brown Blue Linen Shirt:
  • Light blue, long sleeve linen shirt with visible weave in the fabric
  • Shorter, non-button down collar
  • Trim or slim fit (debatable since we only see it under the jacket)
  • No chest pocket
  • Tonal blue buttons
Best Options:

Tom Ford SPECTRE Morocco Knit Tie

While waiting for his ride in the Moroccan desert in SPECTRE, James Bond wears a rust brown colored Tom Ford knit tie with a pointed end with his Brunello Cucinelli linen jacket. Check out The Suits of James Bond for more information on the complete outfit (including some sartorial suggestions on the length of the tie) or you can check out AJB007 member Skippy‘s tie purchase on this thread.

Affordable alternatives Tom Ford SPECTRE Morocco Knit Tie

AJB007 member  Skippy has (very nicely!) set me straight on some details concerning the original. The front of the screen used version was actually the rust brown color and the back was the dark brown. For filming it appears they removed the Tom Ford branded keeper loop/tag. It retailed for $220.00; you can see the tie at Neiman Marcus (sold out, unfortunately). Skippy also shared some photos:

Thanks again for the help!

Features wanted for the Tom Ford SPECTRE Morocco Knit Tie
  • 100% silk knit tie with pointed end
  • Rust color (reddish-orange brown)

Before we start, I  just want to say that we’re going to cheat a little to keep options under the target price. Silk knit ties with the pointed end are not exactly common, so I’ve included options in grenadine silk. While not exactly knit, at least grenadine offers more texture than a regular silk tie. As for the color, I’ve played a little “fast and loose” with “rust” to provide more alternatives.

Best Option

Tie Bar Grenafaux Tie in Chocolate: $19.00

Affordable alternatives Tom Ford SPECTRE Morocco Knit Tie

100% silk for $19.00 ain’t too bad. I’ll let them explain exactly what “grenafaux” means: “At our price, selling a true grenadine silk tie is not possible. No, it’s not a silk knit. But Grenadine is a classic Bond tie material (see Connery) and the color is extremely close to Tom Ford. The tie handmade in New York City from Italian silk. Thanks to AJB007 forum member Obi Sean Kenobi for suggesting this one!

T.M. Lewin Burgundy Knitted Silk Tie: £35.00/$56.00

TM Lewin Grenadine Tie

It may not be a Rust, but $56 for a silk knit tie is a great deal. Folks in the U.S. can see it here for $56.00.

Aklasu Brown/Burnt Orange Grenadine Tie: $69.00

Aklasu Burnt Orange Tie

Chasing Turnier shared an excellent recommendation in the comments. I don’t know much about Aklasu. Their “About Us” page says they’re a Canadian company and they make their ties in Italy. They also offer free shipping in Canada and the U.S.

House of Ties Grenadine Silk “The Nines” Tie in Light Brown: £44.00/$75.00

Affordable alternatives Tom Ford SPECTRE Morocco Knit Tie

Again, it’s not a true knit. However, “The Nines” Grenadine has more texture than the Tie Bar option, and it’s handmade in Italy.

Options Under $150

A few options that cross the $100.00/£70.00 price ceiling, but are still less than the original.

Viola Milano Knitted Solid V-end Tie in Burgundy: €95,00/$103.00/£73.00

Affordable alternatives Tom Ford SPECTRE Morocco Knit Tie

It just breaks our price ceiling at $103.00. But if you want the texture of the original in a close color match, the Viola Milano is a good choice.

Mark Marengo 3 Pleated Skinny Silk Knitted Tie in Chocolate: £85.00

Affordable alternatives Tom Ford SPECTRE Morocco Knit Tie

Shared by AJB007 forum member Llafyks in the comments below. In general, chocolate brown tends to have a little more red in it, so the color of this option should come closer to the rust of the Tom Ford.

I also should mention that Magnoli Clothiers is working on a replica Tom Ford tie, with availability scheduled for sometime in February and an estimated price of around $60.00. You can learn about the development on this AJB007 thread.

As always, we’ll be adding more options as they appear on the market. You can share your alternatives in the comments below. And remember to check out our Facebook page, Instagram account and Pinterest Boards for more James Bond style advice, inspiration and info on where to find the latest deals!

During his adventures in Morocco in SPECTRE, Daniel Craig’s Bond wears the Brunello Cucinelli Aged Gabardine Chinos, first with the Matchless Craig Blouson and Tom Ford Polo, and later with his Cucinelli blazerCucinelli belt, Tom Ford tie and shirt, and the J Crew Kentons. As near as I can tell, it was AJB007 forum member  Awilliams007  that first identified the maker of the pants, while member 000-7 got the confirmation of the model (M067DF1050) and color (C1581) direct from the company. They appear to still be available at Harrod’s for the low, low price of £439.00.

So we can get a good idea of the “real world” color of the chinos, AJB007 forum member DBS has kindly shared one of his photos  showing the Brunello Cucinelli Linen Blazer with the Chinos, the Tom Ford tie and JCrew Kentons in the screen accurate Sahara color. AJB007 forum member TinTin’s photo shows his Chinos, again with the Kentons and the Matchless Craig Blouson.

Features Wanted for the SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Gabardine Chinos
  • Slim fit 100% cotton chinos
  • Belt loops and button tab closure
  • On-the-seam front pockets
  • Rear welt pockets with button closure
  • Medium taupe in color (it’s really all about the color)

So before we get started with the alternatives, it needs to be said that the fine members over at AJB007 are responsible for finding some of the best options listed below. Excellent work and credit is given where it is due!

Best Options

Marks and Spencer  Cotton Rich Super Lightweight Chinos in Taupe: £35.00/$57.00

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

Although they’re not an exact color match for the Brunello Cucinelli Chinos, Marks and Spencer’s Cotton Rich Super Lightweight Chinos in Taupe, selling for £35.00, are a solid option at a good price. Remember that those of you in the U.S. can order from M&S as well. You can find the pants here priced at $57.00. Credit to Andy, who shared this find in the comments below!

Options Under $50

H&M Slim Fit Chinos in Mole: £14.99

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

Going from least to most expensive, we start off with the H&M Slim Fit Chinos in Mole for £14.99. 97% cotton and 3% spandex, so they’ll have some stretch. The color is a lighter taupe than the screen used pair, but of greater concern is the fact that no inseam lengths are mentioned other than the “narrow, slightly shorter legs” offered in the description.

Volcom Frickin Modern Stretch Chino Pant in Mushroom: $14.93 to $83.84

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

You can buy these at Amazon U.S. and, typcial Amazon, they’re priced between $14.93 to $83.84 (size 32 goes for $39.75). Material is 59% Cotton/39% Polyester/2% Elastane, so they’ll be a little warmer than the 100% cotton options.

Mango Straight-fit Cotton Chinos in Grey: on sale for £14.99

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

A suggestion from AJB007 forum member Frigiliana. Over at Mango, you’ll find their Straight-fit Cotton Chinos in grey on sale for £17.99. Sadly, these aren’t available on their U.S. online store. Thanks for sharing!

Options Under $150

All Saints Stove Lumen Chinos in Khaki Green or Putty Grey: on sale for £48.00/$87.00

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

And now for a price jump. AllSaints’ Stove Lumen Chino in Khaki Green is selling for £80.00 on sale for £48.00 on their website (the U.S. website has them here for $145.00 $87.00). They come with a button fly and I would expect these to be a true skinny fit. And yes, the “Green” in the color name makes me a little nervous, but the online pics look like a close match for the Brunello Cucinellis. If you’re still not sure, they also come in a Putty Grey (on the right below). It’s lighter than the Khaki Green and may work if you prefer the more “washed out” look from Rolls Royce scenes.

  • On-the-seam front pockets
  • Rear welt pockets with button closure
  • Medium taupe in color (it’s really all about the color)

After a few years of looking at alternatives for these, I’ve come to believe that choosing the right color depends a lot on the jacket with which you’re going to wear them. You want the jacket and chinos to tone. But there should still be enough contrast so you don’t look like you’re wearing a mixed up suit. So if you have a darker alternative for the Cucinelli blazer, you can go with darker chinos. Got a lighter colored blazer? Go with one of lighter chino alternatives.

Best Option for the SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Gabardine Chinos
Express Slim 365 Comfort Stretch+ Chino in Cobblestone: $79.90

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

A great alternative suggested by AJB007 forum member armenianmovieman (thank you, sir!). Express uses a cotton/polyester/spandex blend. Should work for wicking, wrinkle minimization and stretch. And that Cobblestone is a great color match. Going to try and find a pair of these in store. Will report back if I find ’em. Express has sizes 28 to 42 in various inseam lengths in stock on their website.

Options Under $50
H&M Chinos in Light Taupe: $34.99/£24.99

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

If you’ve gone with one of the lighter colored Morocco blazer options (or you just like a lighter colored chino), then these should work. H&M has launched some kind of sustainability/supply chain transparency program. I’m not sure, but I think these ones might be made from recycled or organic cotton? They’re not too clear on that in the product description. In any event, most sizes are in stock on the website.

Under $100
Volcom Frickin Modern Stretch Chino Pants in Mushroom: $55.00

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

These guys have been a part of this post FOREVER! Definitely a darker colored option. Volcom has used a 58% cotton/39% recycled polyester/2% elastane fabric and they describe the fit as “slightly slim with tapered legs”. Sizes 28 to 46 are available in 30,32 and 34 inseams. If you feel like hunting for a better price, the chinos are also available on Amazon from various sellers.

Selected Homme Slhparis Regular Fit Chinos in Greige: £45.00

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

Look at Selected Homme! Digging back into the 80s to pull out an old Armani color! That’s fun! This is another “stretch” pair with the 98% cotton/2% elastane fabric. And although the description says these are “Regular Fit”, they look pretty darn slim. Selected has sizes 29 to 38 in various inseam lengths available. If you want to try their “Skinny” version of the chino, check out the SLHLuca chinos for the same price.

Massimo Dutti Regular Fit Chinos in Khaki: $69.90/£49.95

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

They may be a little dark. But I have to say the fabric weight and wash and overall fit of these ones really gives me that Cucinelli vibe. I’m also going to hunt for these ones in-store to give some IRL feedback. Once again, the fabric is 98% cotton/2% elastane and sizes 30 to 40 are in stock. Just note that I almost always have to size up with clothing from MD.

Dockers Big & Tall Smart 360 Flex Tapered Khakis in Dark Pebble: $76.00

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

With the brands we’ve listed so far, we know slimmer guys won’t have a problem finding an alternative. But what about the larger gentlemen? If you iron out the crease, these should quite nicely. The cotton/elastane blend fabric and more tapered fit still gives them a more modern look and feel in larger sizes. When we first started looking for alternatives for the Cucinelli chinos, the Dockers in Dark Pebble were an early favorite. Unfortunately, it looks like they’ve discontinued that color in almost every other style except these ones. Coming to you from Kohl’s, where they have sizes 34 to 52 in stock in various longer inseams.

Marks and Spencer Italian Slim Fit Travel Chinos with Stretch in Natural: £45.00/$78.00

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

Just a solid, 99% cotton/1% elastane option from the well known British retailer. These are M&S “Slim”. So I wouldn’t expect anything skin-tight. The color is also a good match for the SPECTRE chinos, if a shade more on the brown side. Waist sizes 28 to 44 are in stock in a variety of inseam lengths.

Gagliardi Light Brown Twill Garment Dyed Trousers: on sale for €71.00

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

Not quite sure about these ones. And only because of the color. They’re described as “Light Brown”. But, online at least, they definitely read darker and more grey than the Cucinellis. But, knowing the quality of Gagliardi’s offerings, I still think they may be worth a look. The washed twill fabric is (again) 98% cotton/2% elastane. And they come in sizes 28 to 38 in short, regular and long inseams.

Options Under $200
Reiss Fielder Garment Dyed Slim Fit Chinos in Beige: $180.00/£95.00

Affordable James Bond SPECTRE Brunello Cucinelli Garbardine Chinos

Expensive? Yes. Very nice? Also yes. A little more brown in tone than the taupe SPECTRE chinos. But can work with some jackets. Just note they’re missing the buttons on the back pocket. Reiss has sizes 28 to 36 in stock, and I believe they all come with a standard 33″ inseam. Now guess the fabric. Go on! I dare ya!
